Thanks to CBBC Newsround!
Lots of parts of Oxford were being used as a backdrop for the
film which tells the story of Lyra, who travels to the north of the
world to save her friend
This crane was being loaded up with a massive camera which
was then used to take sweeping shots of Oxford - including
Exeter College which is being used as the setting for Lyra's home
Jordan College
Here's the camera in the air filming over part of the Bodleian Library
And here's the camera safely back on the ground again!
Fans crowded around vans full of lighting equipment to get a
better view of the filming
This peek through the gate of Exeter College was as close as
you could get to the filming going on behind the walls
Just nearby there was a lorry load of shrubs which were being
used as props on the set of the film.
This sign really gave the game away to any Dark Materials fans.
The film company is called the Northern Progress Company -
really similar to the name of the company set up by the General
Oblation Board to cover up what they're really up to in the North
This is the entrance to the Bodleian Library which is next to
Exeter College. It features quite a lot in Northern Lights
In Pictures: Filming Northern Lights
A film crew has descended in Oxford to begin filming the movie
version of Philip Pullman's Northern Lights. Here they've built a
temporary cabin next to Exeter College
